Located approximately 8,000 light years distance in the constellation Orion the Hunter is a complex of 4 separate objects. These celestial wonders are identified in the Sharpless catalog as Sh2-254 through 257. The brightest of these are Sh2-255 and Sh2-257 and optically lie close to the larger, but more diffused, Sh2-254. The small nebula located just below Sh2-257 is cataloged Sh2-256. These clouds appear somewhat spheroidal in shape and are in close proximity to each other; however, they may not be physically associated.
